Chief Joseph
JOSEPH was born about 1841.
He was more than six feet in height of magnificient physique,
strikingly handsome and gracefull with a native dignity and
a mind of great strength.
He was a true patriot and in defence of his country evinced the
genius of a natural born general and could he have received the training
of West Point, he would have become the peer of
Grant, Lee or Sherman.
He conducted one of the most skillful and masterly retreats in the
annals of warfare.
Joseph died in 1904.
